M, N and NG Tongue Twisters

These tongue twisters work the three nasal sounds of English: /m/, /n/ and /ŋ/ (the ng of sing). Each one blocks the mouth in a different place while the air escapes through the nose.

Practice Tips

  • /m/ closes the lips, /n/ touches the tongue tip to the ridge, /ŋ/ raises the back of the tongue.
  • For ng, do not release a hard /g/ at the end: sing ends in /ŋ/, not /ŋg/.
  • Hum each nasal sound first to feel where it resonates.
