NEAR Diphthong / Centering Diphthong
The centering diphthong vowel sound heard in words like "dear", "fear", "clear", and "here". Often called the NEAR vowel. It starts with a high front unrounded vowel /ɪ/ (like in 'sit') and glides towards the central vowel /ə/ (schwa).
