Phrasal Verbs sind im Englischen allgegenwärtig. „Pick up", „turn off", „figure out", „give up" – du kannst kein Gespräch führen, ohne sie zu verwenden. Aber hier ist etwas, das viele Lernende nicht wissen: Phrasal Verbs haben ein vorhersehbares Betonungsmuster, das sie einfacher macht als gedacht.
Die eine Regel, die du kennen musst
Wenn ein Phrasal Verb als Verb (eine Handlung) verwendet wird, liegt die Betonung auf dem zweiten Wort (dem Partikel):
- pick UP /pɪk ˈʌp/
- turn OFF /tɜːrn ˈɔːf/
- give UP /ɡɪv ˈʌp/
- find OUT /faɪnd ˈaʊt/
- work OUT /wɜːrk ˈaʊt/
Das Partikel (up, off, out, in, on usw.) ist länger, lauter und höher in der Tonhöhe als das Verb.
